What is hypnosis and hypnotherapy?
A deeper explanation of methods, techniques, and the philosophy behind the work.

Hypnosis
Hypnosis (hypnotic trance) is a natural state we all enter briefly several times a day. That means we all have the ability to go into trance—it’s a normal function of the mind. As a hypnotherapist, I guide you into this resourceful state and use it to support positive change, often in combination with NLP and hypnotherapy techniques.
How does hypnosis work?
In hypnosis, your attention becomes intensely focused. It’s a state where you are in contact with both your conscious and unconscious mind. That means you can connect with needs, values, and your inner core. You are still in control: no one can be hypnotized against their will. Likewise, a person in trance cannot be influenced to do something that goes against their values, ethics, or morals.
The unconscious mind
When you are in hypnosis, you have good access to your unconscious mind. The unconscious mind is our “biological hard drive”. It stores our learning, abilities, resources, and the impressions and emotional experiences we have had throughout life.
Our automatic thought and behavior patterns run like “programs” in the unconscious. The unconscious always tries to support you and bring you toward an optimal state. But sometimes there are old patterns you feel limited by. You could say those learnings need an “update”. When they were learned, they often had a positive purpose—perhaps helping you adapt in your family, or patterns you picked up from parents.
Hypnosis is one of the most effective ways to access the unconscious mind. With hypnotherapy, old patterns can be changed and replaced with supportive beliefs and attitudes. Emotional conflicts, blocks, and symptoms can be addressed—freeing resources and giving you more insight, inner safety, and joy.
Hypnosis as a tool
Hypnosis is a tool for bringing yourself—or another person who wants it—into trance. Hypnosis or trance by itself does not automatically create change. It can feel pleasant, relaxing, and supportive, but the state alone is not enough.
Serious training in change techniques is important to create a positive and appropriate shift. I am trained and certified in multiple countries in approaches such as Ericksonian hypnosis and clinical hypnosis, and I am also an NLP Master Practitioner. NLP is an essential tool for understanding how the mind works, asking the right questions, clarifying goals, and making the change process smoother.
Hypnotherapy
Hypnotherapy includes methods for uncovering underlying causes, locating when and how certain patterns began, and creating new understanding and resources—so you can respond from that new insight in the future.
Hypnotherapy is often used to help release limiting emotions such as anxiety, anger, loneliness, guilt, or shame. Many people carry anger for years. It often comes from feeling treated unfairly at some point—often in childhood. When a limiting feeling is “simmering” unconsciously, everyday situations can trigger it. The goal isn’t to blame others—it’s to free you from what limits you.
When the limiting feeling is processed, people often experience a lightness: old negative emotions, thought patterns, and behaviors loosen their grip. That can create more space for calm, clarity, and constructive action.
Hypnotherapy and hypnosis can be used for many challenges and symptoms—as long as you want positive change and can imagine functioning without the problem.
